On the distant 7th of May 1931, the partnership contract of the Cantina Sociale of Casarsa was signed, when seventy pioneers decided to join their forces to create a great cooperative altogether.

A story starting from the age of the “masari” (landowners), when wine was still considered as an equivalent of the currency.

It is the story of a gradual growth, that has gone through difficult moments, such as the total destruction of the winery, collapsed under the 1945 bombings.

Thereafter, a gradual reconstruction took place, with continuous enlargements and investments in new technologies. Only to give you an idea, 34,000 quintals of grapes were processed in 1955, whereas today the processing involves 250,000 quintals.

The late ’50s saw the beginning of the building of a new large pavilion destined to wine bottling. And in 1965 a new automatic bottling system was adopted.

However, the first limited amounts of wine were exported only in the ’70s.1970 was also the year of the introduction of the “Grave del Friuli” DOC product specification.

In the early ’80s, despite the national economic crisis that caused an uncertain climate in the wine market, the Cantina Sociale of Casarsa took on a prominent role in the wine sector, at regional, national and international level. And in 1981, the first sparkling wine production system was inaugurated.

Since the foundation of the Cantina Sociale of Casarsa, three quarters of a century have passed.Today, the result is very positive when you consider that the company comprises 830 partners and nearly two thousand hectares of vineyards.
